Volunteering with Networkfour

We depend almost entirely on the kindness and commitment of our volunteers. The Birmingham Pastors project particularly is built on volunteering constituting a street care team based in and around the city centre offering pastoral care to those in need.

The 'Outreach Pastors’ operate daytime patrols of two or more people around the city centre.

The procedure for volunteering, once you have made the request on this site, is:

  • Register with us (an online volunteer management system called Better Impact).
  • Attend an ‘Orientation shift’ as part of an experienced patrol.
  • Undergo a probationary period (basic training, always accompanied by an Accepted Patrol Leader, references taken up).
  • Progress to ‘Accepted’ on successful conclusion of the probationary period (an acceptable Enhanced DBS check is then required).

‘Casework Pastors’ will generally follow the same route but with a shorter probation period and a DBS check completed in the first few weeks before engaging individually with service users.
